28/11/13 09:55 by Mark Keating (‎mdk‎)

So in my happy rush to list all that was free yesterday I forgot to mention that we also have free cakes.

Yes the wonderful chaps of Exonetric will be stuffing us full of cakey goodness at the mornings coffee break.

Sorry to miss you out chaps, there was so much to list, but the cake is important!

The Event that just keeps Giving

27/11/13 11:45 by Mark Keating (‎mdk‎)

Everyone should be aware by now that the London Perl Workshop is not just in its anniversary year but is the event that gives a lot to the notion of 'free'.

We have:

* Free presentations

* Free training

* Free coffee in the morning

* Free coffee in the evening

* Free drink at the social in the evening

* Free food at the social

* Free entry (though many donated and for that we are hugely grateful)

However, we don't just stop there, and nor do our sponsors. This year we have a number of free gifts and prizes coming from sponsors:

* Free gift for everyone who registered before 15th November from Bytemark

* Free prize (to anyone) for getting a Perl question right - visit the Eligo stand for a chance to win

* free chance to win one of 10 books from O'Reilly

* two awards (kindles) from AntibodyMX as voted for by the attendees.

So everyone visiting the event now has the chance to walk away with up to three gifts, and the speakers get to fight for the chance for a fourth.

LPW, probably the best event in existence. See you on Saturday.

Perl 6 Developers Sponsor the London Perl Workshop

11/11/13 20:40 by Mark Keating (‎mdk‎)

The Perl 6 Community, in the shape of the Perl 6 Developer Team, have joined the list of sponsors of the London Perl Workshop (United Kingdom Perl Workshop) with a generous contribution of one thousand euros.

Perl 6 has grown in the past two years releasing features and furthering the development of its core language.

"Camelia is the spokesbug for Perl 6, the spunky little sister of Perl 5. Like her world-famous big sister, Perl 6 intends to carry forward the high ideals of the Perl community.

Perl 6 is currently being developed by a team of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers. You can help too. The only requirement is that you know how to be nice to all kinds of people (and butterflies). Go to #perl6 (irc.freenode.net) and someone will be glad to help you get started."

The United Kingdom Perl Workshop is delighted to have them as sponsors in its tenth anniversary year.

Bytemark Joins the Sponsors

07/11/13 19:48 by Mark Keating (‎mdk‎)

It is a great pleasure to announce that Bytemark will once again return as sponsors of the London Perl Workshop in its tenth anniversary year.

Bytemark have been a constant supporter of the workshop and of Perl projects such as MetaCPAN and CPAN Testers for a number of years and it is a wonderful feeling to have them return to the event again.

'Bytemark Hosting is the UK's "geek hosting outfit of choice" because its programmer & network-engineer team have built it that way since 2002, with their own tools, software and technical expertise. They understand web applications and network infrastructure equally, and host names such as Bostik, dopplr.com and Britain's largest mystery shopping company, Retail Eyes. Their hosting starts at only £15 per month and runs to multi-site managed setups for customers with the fussiest demands of reliability and failover.'

This year Bytemark will sponsor two wonderful initiatives. Firstly they will host the afternoon coffee break. That's right, the LPW will be adding a free afternoon drink to the morning, evening food and drink festivities. The second initiative is very special. Everyone who signs up to the event before the 14th November, at midnight, will be treated to an individualised gift from Bytemark to be handed out at the afternoon break.

Please help spread the word about the London Perl Workshop, the only barrier-free* to attend event that offers:

Expert Perl Training A bevy of magnificent presentations A free morning drink A free afternoon drink An individualised gift A free drink in the evening social(alcoholic and non-alcoholic) Free evening buffet

* This is a ticketed event but tickets start as low as £0.

Registration

15/07/13 09:33 by Mark Keating (‎mdk‎)

This year the London Perl Workshop has taken the bold step of having tickets for the event. They are priced in four stages and are entirely voluntary as to which stage you purchase:

Workshop Attendee (zero pounds) The London Perl Workshop is a free to attend event which means we place no fiscal barrier to being there. All persons are eligible for a ticket.

Workshop Friend (twenty-five pounds) A friend of the Workshop is helping to support the event they respect, and we admire your brio in doing so.

Workshop Lover (fifty pounds) Wow, you really like us, and this stunning contribution will be used at this event and next year.

Workshop Sponsor (one hundred pounds) You realise this makes you a SPONSOR! It also makes you a star, contributions at this level are making a great impact and we thank you for making that special choice.

All sponsorship is important. We have taken the move to having a voluntary attendance fee this year to help maintain this event and further our aims for the next ten years.

So please remember that when you register you must also purchase a ticket, even if it is for Workshop Attendance. This will also help us keep the data cogent (so the 2/3rds of you who have registered and not selected a ticket price, please log in and do so).
