In this talk, I shall present a virtual filesystem layer I implemented called Filesys::POSIX, which provides facilities for creating and composing filesystem-like structures in interesting ways.
Written entirely in pure Perl, one can create virtual filesystem hierarchies with the following features:
* Self-contained, memory-backed filesystems
* Filesystems backed by directories in your real filesystem
* Filesystems which act as copy-on-write layers on top of any other directory of the filesystem
I will provide many example usages of this, and some background on a disk I/O and storage performance issue this solved for my organization.
