Development of Perl6 is sucking in huge amounts of community creativity, attention and effort. Perl5 is the production work horse in commercial settings. Perl5 needs love and attention and investment for any of Perl to stay cool, hot, sexy and alive. We talk about "get the body you always wanted in 30 minutes" - our fitness regime for perl5.

Perl is the language of choice for the application suite (read 1,000,000+ lines of perl5) that IS our business. The talk includes a good look at the role Perl plays in our business, the awesomely cool things we already do with it and what we'd love Perl to do for us going forward. While the presenters get paid to code Perl, this will NOT be a hardcore tech talk along the lines of "my regex is bigger/better/faster/more than yours".

++ OUTLINE ++

* Pirum's business as an ASP to the global financial services community

* The key role Perl plays in delivering our services, and how it makes us more effective than our competitors

* Real-world examples of cool perl-isms that make a huge difference to us

* Opportunities for perl5 to become an even more awesome tool when using it for a LOT more than devops scripts
