Confusion reigns in the realm of wall clocks! Convention dictates that clocks read differently in different locations, the rules change every year, and computers are obliged to cope. This talk will explain how we got to this mess, how messy it actually is (which is messier than you think), and how computer programs (and programmers) can avoid bemuddlement. The timezones being used on Mars will be covered. The talk will be very light on code.
