In Spain it is common for restaurants to offer the "Menu del día" for lunch composed of an entry dish (soup, salad, pasta, vegetables, etc), a main dish (fish, meat, etc.) a drink and a desert or coffee (8-12euros). Usually you can also order it without the main dish for a reduced price.
In Granada, you will get a small dish every time you order a drink. Most bars would let you choose which one you want.
Vegetarianism is not very popular in Spain and so getting vegetarian food can be somewhat challenging. In the summer, most restaurants serve gazpacho and ajoblanco (cold soups made of raw vegetables) and salad (ensure it is served without tuna - or eggs). You can also buy gazpacho in tetra-brick in any supermarket.
Typical beverages
- Sangría: wine (usually, a cheap one), chopped fruit, sugar, and a small amount of added brandy, quite refreshing in the summer... too refreshing.
- Tinto de verano: red wine and soda, very popular as the beverage to drink at lunch.
- Agua de Valencia: cava or champagne, orange juice, vodka, and gin.
- Anis: an anise-flavored liqueur
- Chinchon
- Pacharan: is a sloe-flavoured liqueur
- Manzanilla: a variety of sherry
- Licor de hierbas: a digestif
- Sidra: an alcoholic beverage made from apples
- Horchata: beverage made of tigernuts (chufas) mixed with water and sugar
