What is it?

The London Perl Workshop (LPW) is a free one-day technical conference in Central London, United Kingdom.

  • WHEN: Saturday 24th November 2018
  • WHERE: 115 New Cavendish Street London W1W 6UW (map)

Please save the date and register, we hope to see you there!

How can I attend, or present a talk?

To attend please create a new user account or log in and then register.

To speak please submit your proposal as soon as possible - the earlier you submit, the more likely your talk is to be accepted.

We welcome the submission of talks, discussions, presentations and workshops about Perl 5, Perl 6, other languages and supporting technologies. It could be something you've been working on, or just something interesting. The Workshop is a chance for us all to learn from each other.

Sponsors

If you would like to sponsor the London Perl Workshop then please do not hesitate to contact the organisers and they will help you with your proposal.

Submissions

Speakers are invited to talk on any subject. We will accept talks from people of any age, background or circumstance, the London Perl Workshop is an inclusive event and we would love to have you attend.

This year we hope to have access to three Workshop rooms and would like to run as many workshops as possible. We would also love to refresh the skills of those wishing to engage with the latest developments in the Perl and other languages. If you wish to submit a workshop please use the same submission form as the talks, please note that workshops will be 60, 120 or 240 minutes in length.

Proposal Deadline: Wednesday 31st October 2018

Please note that we will be starting to accept talks earlier than the proposal deadline and these will be given a priority on the schedule.

13/11/18 London Perl Workshop Schedule

With the workshop just over a week away we have created the schedule. You'll notice we still have room for a few talks, so if you have something you would like to talk about then don't hesitate to submit a talk

We have tweaked the schedule a bit from previous years to start a little later than normal and allow a little more time for lunch. You'll also notice we have a dedicated Perl 6 track and a dedicated "mentoring / beginners" track.

We also have room for more lightning talks and will favour those that are submit early. Note we may tweak the schedule slightly to make room for more talks and/or depending on other factors.

As always, thanks to our sponsors:

29/08/18 A change to this year's LPW Date, 3rd -> 24th Nov

After a few chats at this year's The Perl Conference in Glasgow, and realising that the chosen date for London Perl Workshop 2018 will clash with freenode #live, we decided it would be a good idea to bump the workshop date from Saturday 3rd November to a week later on Saturday 10th November.

However, after speaking to the venue (the usual place of The University of Westminster) this won't be possible due to their prior commitments. So we have decided to push the date back to the "usual" one of the last weekend in November - Saturday 24th.

Having checked a couple of sources the 24th will not clash and this leaves the other potential dates free for people to attend workshops happening then, namely the 3rd November for freenode #live and the 17th November for Barcelona Perl & Friends.

We hope this doesn't affect the plans of anyone who was going to come, and after a straw poll during the first day of lightning talks at TPCiG it seems that bumping the date by a couple of weeks will be of more benefit to those who wanted to attend but wouldn't have been able to (or were going to favour freenode #live).

09/05/18 Announcing The London Perl Workshop 2018

The London Perl Workshop (LPW) takes place this year on Saturday 3rd Nov at the usual place of The University of Westminster's Cavendish Campus. You are encouraged to submit your talk proposals now, or if you have already feel free to submit another.

Talks may be long (45-60 mins) short (15-20 mins) or very short (lightning talks, 5 mins); however given the feedback after last year's LPW we would prefer, and will probably favour, shorter talks. We would also be pleased to accept proposals for workshops, tutorials and discussions. The deadline for submissions is Sunday 16th Oct.

We would really like to have more rookie speakers this year. If you’d like help with a talk proposal, and/or the talk itself, let us know - we’ve got people happy to be your talk buddy!

Register (it's free!) and submit your talk.

We hope to see you there,

Pete, Rick, Lee and Katherine (the organising team)
