AI can generate a thousand ideas before lunch. Unfortunately, quite a lot of them are rubbish. And it can't tell you which ones are worth protecting.
GONGOOZLED® is a real, rather silly card game about getting a narrowboat down a canal before a sinkhole drains all the water away.
AI helped invent the mechanics, write the cards, create the artwork and prepare the files for printing. Then we put the game in front of actual humans. Some ruthless pensioners demolished our cleverest ideas in minutes. Annoyingly, they were right.
The game got better. The AI hadn't spotted why.
So how do you turn all this AI-assisted chaos into something you can actually manufacture and sell? And if AI helped make it, who owns the boat?
I'll explore how Raku and Perl can help keep the whole thing together - recording prompts and human decisions, versioning cards and artwork, testing rules, simulating games, generating print-ready files and keeping track of where everything came from.
We'll also tackle the awkward intellectual property questions. What's actually worth protecting? What can trademarks, copyright, registered designs and trade secrets do for you? And what happens when anyone can generate something remarkably similar?
Expect bad AI ideas, merciless playtesters, terrible canal puns, sinkholes, working Perl and Raku code, and a real game with a trademark, a registered design and an actual boat-shaped box.
Come for the boat. Leave with a practical approach to making - and protecting - something real with AI, Perl and Raku.
