I've been playing with Parrot recently, mainly by implementing a Lisp on it. This talk will illustrate and critique Parrot's support for high-level languages, while looking at the non-syntactic parts of language design. Suggestions for a new class of VM will be presented, along with a new way to think about program compilation.
