A team of few\, we don’t have much hands to develop it. Our organization p rinciples are highly influenced by TQM. In that direction we thought to ha ve only one interface to fetch the data as the way they user need it. We h ighly looked the possibility of reuse in future needs to attain long time benefit.\n\nThe custom report implemented with the options to SELECT infor mation fields\, WHERE filters\, GROUP BY values\, BETWEEN date filters and ORDER BY fields as the way the user need it. It has given an unlimited fr eedom to pick & analysis the data in different dimensions. The system incr ementally improved with new features in each installation. Features like\, bookmark the report selection\, aggregate results\, graphical display\, e tc added in further versions. \n\nThe report configuration implemented in simple Hashes of Hashes structure. It’s helped to implement the system wit h semi skilled resources through a Standard Operation Procedure. Hash base d configuration came handy in transforming real time tweaks with ease. Especially for small teams with multi-role developers\, it's a challenge to keep trac k of it.\n\nIn spite of paying high prices for ignoring DB standards\, we had continuous challenges in following best practices in high development times. Practices like inconsistent naming\, varied field sizes for the sa me purpose\, ignoring relation setups\, ignoring proper indexes\, varied c har set & collations\, unjustified default values & null cases and a few m ore continued for a long time and it become a habit. The primary challenge that we observed is our laziness to do the manual repetitive stuff\, igno ring the best practices in tight timelines. Also\, the absence of document ation and manual processes stopped the juniors from carrying it out.\n\nTo overcome these challenges\, we developed a repair tool that automates rep etitive actions through configuration. This tool handles tasks ranging fro m simple field size alterations to complex trigger query creation\, cateri ng to every requirement. For every need\, an action performer module was i mplemented to take inputs from a CSV file. The CSV based implementation he lped in smoother execution and also served as a documentation to make test automation.\n\nNow we are able to do MRO operations in DB effectively. Ea rlier the code was highly coupled with our internal library. Now we made i t a separate app and planned to make it open to serve similar needs.\n\nIn this talk\, I will share the use cases with hands-on-usage.
