The public transit in Frankfurt is operated by RMV.
You need to buy a ticket *before* boarding the train or tram. Bus drivers sell the tickets when boarding the bus.
You can book your ticket via the mobile phone app "rmvgo", but it needs a SEPA account or Paypal.
