DESCRIPTION:When we write blocking applications code reuse is easy: abstrac
 t the logic and encapsulate it in a method. Why should this be any differe
 nt in a non-blocking application? In this talk I will demonstrate how to u
 se Mojo::IOLoop::Delay to write methods to share non-blocking logic betwee
 n parts of your non-blocking Mojolicious application. With a little care\,
  you can easily control workflow\, exceptions\, nested non-blocking method
  calls\, even make your methods work in a blocking application. \n\nOf cou
 rse this talk will require Mojolicious. It will also use the spin-off proj
 ect Mango as a non-blocking interface to MongoDB. It may use the very youn
 g project Mandel as an Object Document Mapper (ODM) for Mongo. If you woul

DESCRIPTION:Refactoring is a structured discipline for improving code quali
 ty. In my opinion\, it is too often taken for granted.\n\nTool support for
  refactoring is clearly useful\, but differs much between programming lang
 uages. Java has good refactoring tools. This is partly due to the structur
 e and restrictions of the language.\n\nPerl is not particularly well-endow
 ed in this area\, but there is an implementation of some simple refactorin
 gs in PPIx::EditorTools. However\, it does not help with the refactoring t
 hat I consider most important\, but is also significantly more difficult t
 o automate: Extract Class. So I implemented it. It is currently in the “wo
 rks for me” stage.\n\nThe logic required is complex\, and there is surely 
 no way to make it work perfectly in all possible cases. But it should be p
 ossible to make it work well enough that the result of the refactoring is 
 buggy only in rare cases. In other words a “safe” refactoring process.\n\n
 In this talk\, I will demonstrate how to do the available refactorings and
  how they can help improve code. I will also show some of the technical ch
 allenges.

DESCRIPTION:Case Study: The Move from Ajax2 to Mojo\n\nSeveral years ago\, 
 we designed a service management and automation engine integration using w
 eb services.  At the time\, Perl wasn't a natural choice for us since the 
 platform maturity for developing web services and real time transactions w
 as relatively weak\, and much of the framework services we would have to d
 evelop ourselves.  The next choice was Apache Tomcat and Axis2\, which ena
 bled the solution\, but came with a lot of operational overhead\, upgrade 
 challenges\, longer turnaround times\, and even larger systems support pro
 blems.\n\nAfter more than two years of Mojo under our belt with another on
 e of our service offerings\, we decided to change the integration solution
  to the Mojo platform.  In this talk\, we discuss:\n\n1. Our approach to m
 aking the switch\n2. Enabling core services in Mojo such as security to me
 et as-is requirements\n3. How moving to Mojo increased our development and
  test turnaround times\n\nPlus a demo.
