Italian Perl Workshop (IPW) 2012 - Call for Papers

To suggest a talk, please use the web interface. All proposals can be sumbitted until the day before the workshop, but we can't gaurantee acceptance for those sent after October 3rd, 2012.

This year's theme for the workshop is Perl Jubilee, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the language. The topic is, however, just a loose guideline: any Perl-related topic will be fine. Some interesting topics could be:

  • CPAN and related applications
  • Web application frameworks (Mojolicious, Dancer, Catalyst, ...)
  • Moose
  • PSGI / Plack
  • "Modern Perl"
  • Applications of Rakudo Star
  • APIs for cloud services (Amazon, Google, Rackspace, ...)
  • DBIx::Class, other ORMs, NoSQL libraries, ...
  • Functional programming

If you send a proposal, please fill in as much information as possible about yourself in your profile, after having registered.

As for past editions, an introductory course to Perl is already scheduled.

How to submit a talk

If you want to give a talk, please use the web interface to send your proposal.

Here you can find some useful hints on how to fill the web form:

  • Title: a short title for the talk.
  • Language: state the language you will use for the talk (either Italian or English).
  • Abstract: briefly state why you think your talk will be useful for workshop attendees.
  • Abstract URL: link to a short descritption of the topic of your talk.
  • Talk URL: link to any additional material available online for your talk: this will allow the organizers to have a better idea about your talk contents.
  • Duration: the duration of your talk (see below for a description of the various options).
  • Target audience: please specify the knowledge knowledge the audience should have to get the most from the talk.
  • Comments: specify if you have any requirements for presentation equipment or materials (e.g. a laptop, a projector, etc.)

Filling these fields properly will help the organizers to have a detailed idea about the content of your talk.

If you have slides or other material related to your talk that you wish to be published, we kindly ask you to send it to us as soon as possible.

Talk durations

You can choose between 4 different durations:

  • 120 minutes: for tutorial-style talks, where you describe a technology or a complex module; also for discussions about very ample or introductory topics.
  • 40 minutes: for complex or detailed talks; also ideal for most discussions.
  • 20 minutes: for most talks; also for discussions about limited topics.
  • Lightning talk: great for "flash" talks (5 minutes) to be used to briefly show an idea, an application, ....

We will send out acceptance notices for talks by October 3rd, 2012. It is however possible that talks will be accepted when the CfP is still open, also in order to make a partial schedule available to potential attendees.
